SEO Tips: 5 Ways to Improve Your Ranking

Have you ever thought about where your website traffic is coming from? If you rely on users to find your business through a Google search, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) needs to be a top priority for your business.

So what is SEO? SEO is the process of improving the quality and quantity of organic website traffic to a web page from search engines.. Ranking at the top of a Google search is important for potential customers to find you. Multiple studies show that only 25% of users go to the second page of search results, which means if you aren’t near the top, you may not ever get seen.

SEO can be a complicated obstacle to tackle right off the bat, but we are here to help! Here are 5 ways to help improve your SEO ranking.

Improve your page loading speed: Page loading speed is not only important to Google, but also to your visitors! Not only will Google recognize if you have a slow loading speed and bump your ranking, but visitors will likely abandon your page if it tends to lag. Research shows, 40% of visitors will abandon websites if the page takes longer than 3 seconds to load! There are online services such as Pingdom that can test your website’s loading speed for you!

Optimize your site for mobile devices: Mobile use is taking over the world. We know that users are on the go and often grab their phone (over a computer) to search for something. Current data shows nearly half of all web browsing is done through mobile devices. Google is a click away on a smartphone so your site needs to be optimized for these users. Not only can Google recognize how mobile friendly your site appears, but so will your customers. It goes hand in hand with loading speed: if your site isn’t optimized for mobile and it’s too difficult to maneuver through a phone, visitors will leave. Make sure your site is easy to navigate, includes a mobile-friendly navigation, and has easily-accessible contact information!

Use keywords appropriately: Keywords play a huge role in Google ranking. Think about how you search for something on Google and which results come up based on the keyword you entered. Keywords should fit naturally into sentences and should be used throughout your content. Instead of focusing on one word keywords, try coming up with long tail keywords (often in the form of a question). For example, you wouldn’t just type in “SEO” in a Google search. You’d more likely search for “How to improve your SEO”. If your keywords match a user’s search, your website will have a better chance of getting ranked higher. There are multiple online tools to help identify effective and appropriate keywords for your brand. We can help you figure out exactly what keywords to include in your content writing.

Get set up on Google My Business: Setting up an account on Google Business is quick, easy and instantly effective. Google gives a lot of credibility to their own products, so you can utilize this free directory listing as a secondary source of information for Google to find you. You can edit the information about your business, verify contact information, link to your website, monitor reviews and even add pictures. When people search your business this is what they see first on the Google Search Engine. You want your Google Business to be updated and relevant! You can stay up-to-date with daily or weekly posts that share information, current specials, and general updates. When searching on Google many customers tend to skip over a business with no pictures, reviews or information, so make sure you have as many fields completed as possible. If you want to rank higher, you’ll want to have your Google Business set up and updated.

Have a link-worthy site: Most people are searching web pages for information. When including long-form content with a lot of information, you tend to have a lot of data and info that require outbound links to go more in depth. Having descriptive links with keywords not only improves SEO, but also adds interest to your readers! Try to stay away from “Click Here” buttons with links attached. This has no value to your Google ranking. Remember keywords are essential, so you want to make sure your links also incorporate these keywords in them!
